November 5, 2001
John Rhody
Planning Commission Chairman
City of Roseville
2660 Civic Center Drive
Roseville, MN 55113
re: Request for Variance for
Brad Hoff — 1897 Shady Beach Ave., Roseville MN 55113
Planning File #3347
Dear Mr. Chairman:
I am opposed to granting a variance to Mr. Brad Hoff of 1897 Shady Beach Avenue. Fourteen of
the sixteen neighboring property owners are opposed to granting this variance as well
(attachment #. That is 87. S% of the neighbors who live within 350 feet of 1897 Shady Beach
Avenue! (exhibit #
The fence is question, circa 1990, was built by the previous property owner, Mike Ubel of 1897
Shady Beach Avenue. (I'm not sure of the proper spelling of his name.) The fence was set back
from the lake 50 feet and was shorter in height. This new fence is higher than the previous fence
built prior to 1990 and runs down to the shoreline.
I am opposed to the fence for the following reasons:
• The fence obstructs my view of the lake. It is a`taking without compensation'.
• The fence obstructs the sightline of the entire neighborhood.
• The fence obstructs the shoreline as well as the lake.
• The fence decreases the lake aesthetics.
• The fence decreases property values.
• The fence has a negative environmental impact on the lake itself.
