After reading the newspaper article by MS Agfa,
it became quite obvious that Mr. Schroeder's proposal was somewhat
orchestrated by those he consulted with. In his statement in the paper,
"...consulted with the mayor and others whom he refused to identify." It is
obvious you are being used, Mr. Schroeder, and if you don't realize it, the
people of Roseville will and they won't take kindly to it. They like their
elected officials to think and speak for themselves even if it means making a
mistake now and then and having to change your mind for the best of the
community. I know this to be true from eight years of service on the city
council.
Mr. Kough, you were quoted as being an "individualist" and I see this as the
first of many opportunities to be one. You have served as an elected
official in another town and I would think you would find some of the
proposed changes unnecessary and almost outrageous in the power they give to
the Mayor. We outgrew that kind of government in Roseville 40 years ago when
we changed to the present form. In addition, the people spoke forcefully in
the last election as to their satisfaction with our present government by
their rejection of the charter proposal. Both you and Mr. Schroeder wil].
need to be more careful with your decisions in the coming weeks in order to
prove to your constituents that you are your own person. That's the frailty
of being the "new kid on the block".
I thank all of you for giving your time to public service and wish for you
and Roseville a progressive, harmonious and good year ahead. I liked what
Mr. Frazell from the League of Minnesota Cities said about respectful debate
-"to disagree without being disagreeable." Go for it!!!!! Sincerely,
Polly Franke
i
