3 covered and their painted windows keep out the sun. Life expectancy llaS
9 fallen to age 40.
In most of our world, as time progresess so have human rights and
conditions. Not for the people of Afghanistan. Before Afghans recent history,
women were able to have jobs, be educated, had the right to vote and were
not treated so severely. Article 2 of the Declaration states "Everyone is
entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth without distinction of any kind,
such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political, or other opinion,
national/social origin property, birth or other status. The Taliban's treatment
of Afghan women seems to violate nearly every point in this Article!
It seems to me that individuals can do little to help Afghanistan and it's
women until the Taliban is forced out. I believe that supporting the war
against terrorism is a step in the direction of removal of the Taliban and a
step in helping The Afghan people including its women. There is also a
website that offers to aid the women of Afghanistan. The website is run by
The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan(RAWA),It is
h//www rawa.fancvmarketiog.net/index,hhnl At this website, you can
find out how to send money to help in health care, education, awareness
building, or emergency relief. AlsO at this WebSite you can sign a petition
condemning the Taliban extremists in Afghanistan. The petition can be signed
on-line. It states: We the undersigned, condemn the atrocities committed by
the extemists. We condemn the violations of human rights, especially
women's rights in Afghanistan in the name of Islam. We support the
Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (R.AWA) for their
struggle for democracy and women's rights. We encourage the UN and the
US Congress and government to adopt a resolution against Taliban an Jihadic
bands and encourage a democratic movement in Afghanistan. We urge the
11 and all governments to lead international sanctions against the
fundamentalists , and countries who deal with the Taliban and Jihadic
criminals. We condemn countries who are supporting Taliban militarily and
financially.
The situation for women in Afghanistan seems so helpless but small
steps in the right direction may slowly get help to these people.
