B. <br />Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />�/I n „ /1 !`� _ _�I-- Consent <br />Item Description: <br />Harriet Alexander Nature Center Prairie Burn <br />BACKGROUND <br />As a part of an ongoing maintenance program for the 80' x 90' prairie restoration area at <br />the Nature Center it is necessary to burn a minimum of every other year. This not only <br />rids the weeds but also enriches the prairie plants. The burn is considered controlled <br />and done by experienced individuals. <br />The Roseville Fire Department will be coordinating the burn and the surrounding <br />neighbors are notified prior to the burn and invited to attend. <br />The burn is scheduled to take place on Tuesday October 1, weather permitting. If not <br />on the 1 st, then the first weather conducive day after. <br />POLICY <br />This is consistent with the adopted open burning policy of the City and the prairie <br />management plan. <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS <br />None. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Based on the need for a continuing maintenance program the staff recommends that <br />the Nature Center prairie restoration area be burned on Tuesday October 1St, 2002 or <br />the first weather conducive day after. <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Motion authorizing the Fire Marshall to issue a permit to allow open burning of the <br />prairie restoration area at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center on Tuesday October 1St, <br />2002 or the first weather conducive day after. <br />
