Mediation strengthens and builds community
relationships and offers an option that is less time consuming and less costly than the
legal process.
Cities such as Maplewood realize considerable saings in staff time and resources, as well
as potential litigation costs, when mediation services are utilized. Participants report
greater satisfaction with outcomes as well as improved relationships as a result of inediation.
This translates into healthier, safer communities. In addition, educational sessions
conducted by DRC staffand volunteers provide information to residents, businesses and
youth that promote the nonviolent resolution of conflict and strengthens communities.
With the hope for strengthening our partnership with the City of Nlaplewood, we want
to provide another opportunity to you. Our sta,ff is aailable to meet with City staff
to discuss the kinds of cases that can be referred to mediation, DRC's confidentiality
standard, and procedures for referring disputes.
