� <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 09/23/02 <br />ITEM NO XI• D. <br />Dep en Approval: Ci anager: Agenda Section: <br />CONSENT <br />Item Description: Approval for Participation in the Split-Level Remodeling Plan Book. <br />1.0 REQUESTED ACTION <br />1.1 City staff is requesting approval to participate in the 2nd Plan Book published by 11 metro <br />area communities and three counties. Participation requires approval of an agreement with <br />the Brooklyn Park EDA who is acting as the fiscal agent for the venture. In addition, <br />participation cost is $5,000 which has been budgeted as part of the housing fund in <br />anticipation of this second Plan Book which will focus on renovation of Split-LeveUSplit- <br />Entry style homes. <br />2.0 BACKGROUND <br />2.1 The City of Roseville participated with 13 other first ring fully developed communities on <br />the development of the first Remodeling Plan Book in 1998. Roseville committed $5,000 <br />and staff time to the development of the first Plan Book which focuses on remodeling <br />designs for cape code and rambler homes built in the 50's and 60's. <br />2. 2 The Rambler/Cape Code Plan Book was a huge success and received several a lot of inedia <br />attention and local and national awards. Roseville was e�tremely successful in distributing <br />the books and sold more than 500 copies both to residents and non-residents. Although the <br />distribution has slowed in the past year, we continue to get requests for the book. <br />3.0 SUMMARY OF THE SPLIT-LEVEL/SPLIT-ENTRY REMODELING PLANBOOK <br />3.1 Based upon the success of the Rambler/Cape Code Plan Book and requests for other home <br />style resource books, the group of Cities/Counties came together this summer and solicited <br />request for proposals for production of the Split-Level book One proposal was submitted <br />from architect Robert Gerloff. Mr. Gerloff was also author of the Rambler /Cape Code Plan <br />Book. <br />3. 2 The goal of the Plan Book is to encourage families to stay in their communities by improving <br />the e�sting housing stock to meet the functional needs of today's growing families and <br />adaptability for aging in place, thereby providing stability to the schools and community. <br />3.3 The Split-Level Book will be similar in design and content and will include a brief history of <br />the style of homes, identification of typical design challenges, renovation plan diagrams, <br />heating system issues, additions, interior design issues, dealing with the entry and facade and <br />Split-Level Plan Book - RCA (09/23/02) - Page 1 of 2 <br />
