Department Approval:
7 V
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
1Tanager Reviewed:
„/ ,,
,
DATE: 09%23fQ2
TTEM: .
, ,
i',
Agenda Section:
 ,.
----
Item Description: Authorization to hire replacement Utility Division employee within the
Public Works Department
Background: The City hired a maintenance employee in May, 2002 to replace a vacated
position in the Utility Division. The employee did not satisfy the performance requirements of
the position and was terminated during the six-month probationary period on September 13,
2002.
Staff is seeking authorization to fill the vacated position within the Utility Division of the Public
Works Department.
Policy Objectives: To provide cost effective, timely, and efficient maintenance services to
residents and visitors to the City of Roseville.
The requested position is necessary to maintain our ability to provide services at current levels.
The Utility Division is responsible for the service and repair to the City's sanitary sewer
collection system, the water distribution system, and assisting other City departments as needed.
The requested position would bring the division to normal staff levels of $-%Z maintenance
employees and one supervisor.
Financial Implications: Adequate funds for the position are available in the 2002 Sanitary
Sewer and Water Utility operating funds. Staff anticipates no additional budgeted amounts will
be requested.
Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends approval of the requested position replacement and
authorization to proceed with the hiring process.
RECOMMENDED COi1NCIL ACTION: The Council by motion, should approve and
authorize staff to proceed with the hiring process to fill the vacated utility maintenance employee
position within the Public works Department.
Prepared By: Frank Gaillard, Public Works Superintendent
