Department Approval Manager Approval Agenda Section Item Description: 2003 Dental Insurance Consent Back�round: The City of Roseville contract for dental insurance will expire on December 3 1, 2002. Staff issued an RFP for 2003 insurance coverage in August and received responses from five companies in September. Following receipt of the proposals, staff shared the information with City employees through feedback meetings. According to surveys conducted in the October feedback meetings employees expressed a preference for the Fortis proposal which would result in a 4.7% decrease in premiums for 2003. Annually, staff monitors the metropolitan region to compare Roseville premiums to other communities. Of the eight surveyed, the 2003 proposed plan would place Roseville's rates as the second lowest. Therefore, the rates are comparable and competitive. Policv Implications: The City provides dental insurance to 57 single and 49 family members. Employees assume the total cost of family dental insurance premiums and the City assumes the cost of the single plan as other cities do. Council Action Requested: Motion authorizing the City to sign an agreement with Fortis Sensible Dental Plus for the provision of employee and retiree dental insurance for the period January 1, 2003 to December 3 1, 2003.
