Data Geeks Subcommittee <br /> 51 <br /> 52 Commissioner Barb Yates said the subcommittee had not met but they are ready to review what <br /> 53 data they had available and see what the City and the Human Rights Commission should <br /> 54 monitor. <br /> 55 <br /> 56 5. Business Items <br /> 57 <br /> 58 5a. Election of Vice Chair of the Commission <br /> 59 <br /> 60 Chair Singleton explained that at the October meeting, the Commission elected him to the chair <br /> 61 position but the election of the Vice Chair was continued to the November meeting. Vice Chair <br /> 62 Oftelie suggested that she would be willing to serve until March 2011, at which time she would <br /> 63 be going off the commission, and then the most senior person present could fill the role of Vice <br /> 64 Chair. <br /> 65 <br /> 66 Chair Singleton said the Vice Chair doesn't have an active role, and nothing in the bylaws <br /> 67 prohibits having a rotating position. <br /> 68 <br /> 69 Chair Singleton moved and Commissioner Yates seconded the nomination for Marie Oftelie stay <br /> 70 in the position of Vice Chair until her term expires. There were no further nominations. The <br /> 71 motion passed unanimously. <br /> 72 <br /> 73 5b. Update on Youth Representative <br /> 74 <br /> 75 Carolyn Curti told commissioners that the City had received one application so far and another <br /> 76 youth indicated he was going to apply. The deadline to apply is November 19. Commissioners <br /> 77 asked Curti to send information to Northwest Youth and Family Services. <br /> 78 <br /> 79 Once the deadline passed, Curti will send applications to the Visions of Success Subcommittee <br /> 80 for action in time for action at the December meeting. <br /> 81 <br /> 82 5c. Essay Contest Timeline <br /> 83 <br /> 84 Curti reviewed the essay contest timeline. She will collect essays from the schools on November <br /> 85 12. Commissioners will review essays and submit their top three choices by December 8. <br /> 86 Commissioners will receive top 24 essays at the December meeting and review and score them <br /> 87 before the January meeting, at which time the Commission will select the top essays. <br /> 88 <br /> 89 Winners will be invited read their essays to the City Council at one of the February meetings. <br /> 90 <br /> 91 6.
