In my surroundings, whites have always been in the <br />majority. I never knew an African-American until my seventh <br />grade year when one girl transferred into our school. I <br />felt uncomfortable around her at first, more afraid of what <br />she thought of me, but now she is my good friend. l treat <br />her no differently than I would my white friends. She is a <br />part of my life no matter wh t <br />a race, religion" or <br />backround. <br />I have never really encountered a friend who displayed <br />discrimination, but I have heard degrading Jokes. I wouId <br />be zncredibl stunned and angry was put in a position <br />like that, but sometimes it is easier to keep quiet then <br />speak up and correct your friend. I believe that I am a <br />strong enough person to let my companion know what I feel, <br />Being racist or prejudiced is disliking other human <br />beings even if you hadn't known them, talked with t em, or <br />seen them. <br />As it states in the Universal Declaration of Human <br />Rights Article One, all human beings are born free and <br />
