Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes September 11, 2007 <br />Page 6 of 7 <br />Commissioner Venters opined that some of this training may take a while to coordinate, possibly <br />up to one year. <br />Commissioner Delmore opined that a year was too long to wait. <br />Commissioner Bosch opined that there was a danger of finding resistance or some backlash not a <br />preferred outcome and sought to make the first discussion engaging to set the stage for future <br />discussions. <br />Commissioner Bosch provided a sample City "Welcome" packet for commissioners to review. <br />Commissioner McKenzie referenced a previous "New Teachers" welcome packet that had been <br />incorporated in the past with City new resident information for new teachers coming into the <br />community. <br />Commissioners requested that Mr. Miller determine the status of these packets and how and <br />when they were made available. Mr. Miller advised that he had 4 5 action steps for his <br />response, as well as City Manager Malinen's response. <br />Additional discussion included providing food for the HRC meeting with staff, whether the St. <br />Paul Foundation grant provided for such expenditures; Mr. Miller advised that they had $2,200 <br />in their annual budget and the success of combining dinner and dialogue to ensure interest in <br />participation. <br />Attendance Records and Commitment to Serve <br />Chair Delmore noted that the HRC had established an attendance policy last year and suggested <br />reviewing the policy again. Chair Delmore asked members to be committed in their attendance <br />to allow the HRC to accomplish their goals. <br />Commissioner McKenzie suggested that the HRC focus on ensuring a quorum at their meetings <br />to encourage attendance and commitment from individual members. <br />Diversity Training at the City <br />(Previously addressed). <br />Other <br />Commissioner Venters updated Commissioners on his discussions with the Police Department <br />and his intent to attend Citizens Academy training scheduled for March of 2008 as a way to build <br />a bridge with the City's Police Department. Commissioner Venters encouraged other <br />Commissioners to seek involvement. Commissioners asked Commissioner Venters to provide <br />additional information as a tool to build upon this relationship. <br />Commissioner Bosch reiterated her involvement in the "All Families Matter" curriculum and <br />program and ways the City of Roseville could become more visible to the GLTB community <br />through involvement in gay pride parades and by having booths available at such events to make <br />people aware of Roseville as an open community. <br />
