January 11, 2011 <br /> Item 3 <br /> 1 Human Rights Commission Approve Minutes <br /> 2 DRAFT Meeting Minutes- DRAFT <br /> 3 December 14, 2010 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Commissioners Present: Chair David Singleton; Commissioners Gary Grefenberg, Liz <br /> 6 Jaeger, Seth, Josephson, Peg Kennedy and Barb Yates <br /> 7 <br /> 8 Commissioners Absent: Commissioners Thelma McKenzie and Marie Oftelie <br /> 9 <br /> 10 1. Call to Order <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Chair David Singleton called meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. The Clerk called the roll. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 2. Approve Minutes of November 9, 2010 <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Commissioner Barb Yates moved and Commissioner Liz Jaeger seconded approval of the <br /> 17 minutes. Motion prevailed with one abstention. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 3. Staff/Committee Reports <br /> 20 <br /> 21 3a. Visions of Success Subcommittee <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Commissioner Jaeger reported that Commissioner Gary Grefenberg, Chair Singleton and she <br /> 24 interviewed the four youth commission applicants. The subcommittee learned a lot about issues <br /> 25 affecting high school youths. The youths said they learned about the opening in an article in the <br /> 26 Roseville Review. Commissioners appreciated that resource but discussed ways to make sure all <br /> 27 youths and student groups in the schools hear about the opportunity. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 They were impressed with the quality of all of the applicants but unanimously agreed to <br /> 30 recommend appointing Anthony Barrett to the Commission. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Commissioner Jaeg moved on behalf of the subcommittee to recommend to the City Council <br /> 33 that they appoint Anthony Barrett as a youth commissioner. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Commissioner Peg Kennedy arrived at 6:50. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Commissioner Jaeger said the subcommittee discussed ways of engaging more youths in the <br /> 38 Commission. Commission Jaeger moved to recommend that the City Council establish an <br /> 39 alternate youth commissioner who would fill in and /or attend commission meetings when one or <br /> 40 both of the youth commissioners is not able to attend a commission meeting. Motion prevailed <br /> 41 unanimously. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 Commissioner Jaeger moved to recommend to the City Council that they appoint Marie Siliciano <br /> 44 as an alternate youth commissioner. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br /> 45 <br />
