Policv Implications
Each year the City budgets for wage and benefit adjustments for all employees. The
adjustments stem from the best information known or anticipated from the metro labor
market, labor settlements, and the consumer price index.
The City's compensation policy objectives include:
Internal Equity — maintaining a compensation and benefit package that is as
consistent as possible between the City's three union and two non-union groups.
External Equity- although the policy is to maintain a compensation and benefit
package that is equivalent to comparable cities, survey data shows that the City's
pay scale is anywhere from 1% to 15% below comparable cities for comparable
positions.
Financial Imnlications
The budgeted personal services funds in the 2005 would cover the cost of the proposed
49ers' collective bargaining agreement for 2005. For 2006,the Council would have to
budget sufficient funds to meet the collective bargaining agreement's terms described
above.
Council Action Reauested
Motion to approve the proposed terms and conditions for the 2005-2006 collective
bargaining agreement with the 49ers, and to direct the City staff to prepare the necessary
documents for execution, subject to City Attorney approval as to legal form.
