Roseville Human Rights Commission Minutes March 9, 2010 Page 3 of 3 Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Yates seconded a motion for the Roseville Human Rights Commission to partner with the Roseville School, Roseville Fire Department and Roseville Police Department to sponsor a Karen Refugee Forum as outlined in the February 18 memo. Motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Yates suggested the commission make a commitment to a certain amount of money to make sure this forum occurs. Commissioners encouraged Mahmud to seek funding from other resources. She said she would look for funding from whatever places possible. Commissioner Yates moved and Commissioner Jaeger seconded motion to donate $100 to help start raising money for the forum and encourage Mahmud to seek funding from other sources. Motion unanimously prevailed. 5. Public Comment No one appeared for public comment. Chair Singleton acknowledged a student in the audience. 6. Future Agenda Items Commissioner Yates asked about the Police Department press release about the incident at Rosedale Mall. Chair Singleton explained that he asked that to be included, since several commissioners asked about what had happened. He indicated that there was no reason to believe the fight was related to a human rights issue. Commissioner Grefenberg asked that the City include a statement about seeking volunteers on the Human Rights website. Chair Singleton asked that the Program Planners subcommittee look into it before making a recommendation. 7. Announcements Chair Singleton distributed certificates to each of the commissioners for completion of the governance training and strategic planning. Curti distributed an update about Imagine Roseville. Staff had identified items that have been done, are in process, ongoing or not yet begun. She said that City Manager Bill Malinen asked that Commissioners review and provide any feedback they may have on any of the items. Commissioners were asked to review and send comments to Curti before the end of the month. 8. Adjournment Chair Singleton adjourned the meeting at 7:35 p.m.
