Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Minutes —May 11, 2010 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Commission Yates seconded a motion by which the <br />Human Rights Commission expresses its appreciation and gratitude for the interest and efforts <br />taken by the Fire Department, Police Department, Roseville Area School District, especially Peg <br />Kennedy, and the Roseville Lutheran Church and the League of Women Voters, and especially <br />thanks to Mayor Craig Klausing, for his remarks and attendance, and we also express our <br />appreciation of the contributions of the Karen community. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />4b. Discussion about Youth Against Race, Class, and Place Disparities Human Rights <br />Video Contest <br />Commissioner McKenzie summarized the Youth Against Race, Class, and Place Disparities <br />Human Rights Video Contest sponsored by the University of Minnesota Human Rights Center. <br />Commissioners discussed ways to promote the contest, including contacting CTV, the local <br />schools and the Roseville Review. <br />Commissioner McKenzie moved and Commissioner Yates seconded the motion to support and <br />promote the Youth Against Race, Class, and Place Disparities Human Rights Video Contest. <br />Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />5. Public Comment <br />No one appeared for public comment. <br />6. Future Agenda Items <br />Commissioner Yates asked that the HRC consider more dialogues like the Karen Forum, <br />focusing on new communities, possibly the Somali community in Roseville or other groups that <br />may be identified when census data becomes available. Commissioners want to create <br />opportunities for people to get to know each other. <br />Commissioner McKenzie asked that the HRC revisit getting a youth commissioner. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg asked whether plans were underway yet for the October community <br />dialogue. Commissioner McKenzie said they would begin planning a few months before the <br />event. <br />7. Announcements <br />Commissioner McKenzie mentioned the Close the Gap Workshop on June 14 and 15. <br />Curti reminded Commissioners that Roseville's essay contest winner Kenzie Lutz took place in <br />the statewide essay contest. Kenzie attends Roseville Area Middle School and is taught by Mr. <br />Greg Bibeau. <br />
