Commissioner <br />Grefenberg clarified that they are focusing more on process and it will be up to participants to <br />identify issues. The subcommittee wants to create a process where individuals and groups would <br />be comfortable coming to city, rather than being angry with government. They want citizens to <br />become engaged and feel they are the government. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Jaeger seconded the motion to accept the <br />report. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />3c. Data Geeks Subcommittee <br />Commissioner Barb Yates said the subcommittee is seeking what information is currently <br />available and expects to have a report in June. <br />3d. Financial Report <br />Curti reviewed the April financial report. Commissioners asked to clarify that the Bremer <br />Foundation grants are available indefinitely. Curti will check with the Mario Hernandez to <br />confirm that the money will carry over from year to year. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg asked staff to clarify that the Human Rights Commission budget is <br />$2,250, not $2,000 as reported on the City's website. Curti clarified that the $2,250 is correct. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Commissioner Jaeger seconded the motion to accept the <br />report. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />4. Business Items <br />4a. New Americans/Karen Community <br />Curti summarized the May 8 community forum. Close to 90 attendees including members of the <br />Karen community, city staff, members of the Roseville community and Commissioners <br />Grefenberg, Jaeger, Peg Kennedy and Thelma McKenzie attended the forum. She reported that <br />the presentations were well received as was the food and the opportunity to climb into the fire <br />truck and police car. <br />Commissioners shared comments about the forum including high turnout, how well it was <br />organized and quality and depth of questions. Commissioners commented on the openness of the <br />questions and the thoroughness of the responses from Officer Won Chau and Fire Inspector <br />Doug Johnson. Commissioners said that by greeting attendees in the Karen language, they set the <br />tone for a positive experience. <br />Commissioners mentioned the efforts by Sarah Mahmud and Peg Kennedy in planning this <br />event. Commissioners also recognized Mayor Craig Klausing who gave a welcome and then <br />stayed the entire time. <br />
