Roseville Human Rights Commission
Meeting Minutes October 09, 2007
Commissioner Delmore advised that she had contacted the Police Chief in Chaska, Scott Knight,
to get his feedback and impressions on the training results in Chaska, since it was held three
years ago and she would provide that update at the next HRC meeting.

Further discussion included the HRC and City departments to keep open minds as this
integration and working relationship is pursued; and suggested scheduling two dates for diversity
training to allow for scheduling flexibility followed by the HRC brainstorming further plans at
their November meeting and determining the next steps.

Update on Essay Contest
Discussion ensued regarding the essay contest schedule and process, available HRC funds,
interesting volunteers in reading essays for the HRC versus individual HRC members reading
essays; and developing a rubric as a tool to make the process more effective and consistent.

Commissioner Bosch volunteered to provide a sample rubric at the November meeting for
commissioners to review and consider.

Commissioners Crump and Venters expressed their ongoing interest in and enthusiasm for
reviewing the essays.

Mr. Miller provided a handbook developed by a former City Manager several years ago which
was being given to all advisory commissions and the City Council which provided an outline of
the role of advisory commissions and their relationship to elected officials and City employees.
Mr. Miller encouraged commissioners to read the handbook noting that staff was receiving good
feedback from other advisory commissions; and he hoped it would allow the HRC a greater
insight of the inner workings of City Hall.

Adjournment
Commissioner Crump moved and Commissioner Venters seconded adjournment of the meeting
at 7:35 p.m. Motion carried 4/0.
