City of <br />lei <br />Minnesota, USA <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />December 11, 2007 <br />Present: Chair Janet Delmore; and Commissioners Philip Crump; Tam McGehee; Pam <br />Bosch; Marie Oftelie; and Bob Venters. Commissioner Thelma McKenzie at <br />approximately 7:30 p.m. <br />Others Present: City Manager Bill Malinen; and Recording Secretary Sheila Stowell. <br />Call to Order: Chair Delmore called the Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting to <br />order at 7:00 p.m. <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Commissioner Crump moved and Chair Delmore seconded approval of the November 13, 2007 <br />meeting minutes as amended. Motion carried 4/0/2 (McGehee and Bosch abstained). <br />Corrections <br />Correct month and date on secondary page headings (pages 2 4). <br />HRC Budget <br />Chair Delmore led a discussion on the HRC budget and remaining 2007 funds of $1,300. <br />Chair Delmore requested that the minutes reflect that HRC Commissioners were unaware of <br />funding for recording secretarial services for their meetings were allocated to the HRC Budget. <br />Commissioners discussed various programs and resource materials to promote diversity and <br />encourage middle school interest in the annual essay contest and subject materials. <br />City Manager Malinen agreed to research the legalities of donations by the HRC. <br />Commissioner Bosch suggested Families All Matter curriculum, schools in the District that had <br />purchased the guidelines and those not having implemented the program yet. Commissioner <br />Bosch volunteered to poll the schools before year -end to determine curriculum status. <br />Discussion included how to distribute money or materials to support the program, choice of <br />schools, grade levels, review of books available that would focus on the HRC's mission and <br />using this as a pilot program to determine how successful it would be in promoting the HRC <br />mission. <br />Discussion included whether the schools should be within the Roseville School District and /or <br />only those located in the City of Roseville; how to encourage children's interest in reading and <br />the topics covered in the curriculum; focus of HRC goals and book topics: Race and Ethnicity; <br />Immigration; Divorce, Breakup, Blending; GLBT; Socio- economics; Disability; Aging; and <br />Families are Different; with annual revisiting of this pilot program to determine its effectiveness, <br />
