Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes December 11, 2007 <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />and if positive to continue building the diversity libraries of our schools; and volunteering by <br />HRC Commissioners to promote and /or receive feedback from teachers and students. <br />Additional discussion included content and originality of this year's essays. <br />Chair Delmore expressed concern that she had not been aware of the HRC's annual budget <br />allotment until recently. <br />Discussion ensued regarding monetary awards for essay contest winners to provide incentive. <br />Discussion on which schools were to be contacted for the Families All Matter curriculum were <br />determined to be Parkview, Capitol Hills, Brimhall, and Emmet D. Williams, with consensus that <br />only those schools located in Roseville be included in this pilot program. <br />Commissioner McKenzie arrived. <br />Commissioner Bosch reviewed discussion on this pilot program held in Commissioner <br />McKenzie's absence. <br />Commissioner McKenzie opined that any remaining taxpayer monies should be returned the City <br />and not spent for the purpose of spending. <br />Chair Delmore expressed her concern that the HRC was not told about their budget. <br />Commissioner McKenzie requested that Chair Delmore not create an innuendo of doubt where <br />there wasn't one. She said there had always been an HRC budget and provided examples of <br />expenses from that budget over the years, further opining that there had always been openness <br />and forthrightness by City staff with the HRC. <br />Commissioner McGehee said Ms. Curti had informed her of the $2,000 annual budget when she <br />was appointed to the HRC. <br />Chair Delmore opined that there was now on the table a good and worthy cause and encouraged <br />the HRC to spend the $1,300. <br />Commissioner McKenzie said if funds remained, the taxpayer monies should go back to the City <br />if no immediate needs were apparent. <br />Discussion continued on the amount to be spent at this time (i.e., books), and those funds to be <br />expended in 2008 (i.e., essay prizes); and keeping funds available for speakers in 2008. <br />Commissioner McGehee moved, Commissioner Crump seconded approval of funding the four <br />previously- identified schools for those books as previously discussed, in the amount of <br />$125 /school, totaling $500 with Commissioners to further discuss and determine in January 2008 <br />how they were going to participate as a group in the classroom. Motion carried 7/0/0. <br />
