City of <br />lei <br />Minnesota, USA <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />January 08, 2008 <br />Present: Chair Janet Delmore; Commissioners Bob Venters; Tam McGehee; <br />Thelma McKenzie; and Marie Oftelie; with Vice Chair Pam Bosch. <br />Absent: Commissioner Philip Crump had previously advised that he would be <br />unavailable for tonight's meeting. <br />Others Present: City Manager Bill Malinen and Recording Secretary Sheila Stowell. <br />Call to Order: Chair Delmore called the Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting to <br />order at 7:00 p.m. <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Commissioner Oftelie requested a typographical correction on page 1, line 41 to define <br />"disability" and "aging" as separate topics. <br />Chair Delmore requested the minutes reflect that HRC Commissioners were unaware of funding <br />for recording secretarial services for their meetings were allocated to the HRC Budget. <br />Commissioner Venters moved and Commissioner McGehee seconded approval of the December <br />11, 2007 meeting minutes as amended. Motion carried 5/0. <br />Information Receptacle at City Hall <br />As previously discussed, an information receptacle is available at City Hall for research and <br />information related to Human Rights interests. <br />Commissioner Oftelie presented City Manager Malinen with her collection of new resident <br />packets and brochures in addition to information she'd collected from the State Human Rights <br />conference which included the City of Bloomington's HRC Work Plan and annual report. <br />Training DVD from State Human Rights League <br />Discussion was held on the 4 -topic training DVD provided by Chair Delmore. Consensus was to <br />ask Commissioner Bosch to review the DVDs; and if she did not have time, to bring them back <br />to the HRC agenda for the possibility of each Commissioner to choose one to review and report <br />back to the HRC. <br />Update on Essay Contest/Meeting in February <br />Winners of the 2007 Essay Contest, per e -mail information received from Ms. Curti, and <br />following review and ranking by each Commissioner were as follows: <br />First Place was Essay #115 at 189 points <br />Second Place (tied) were Essays #210 and #220 <br />Third Place was Essay #26 at 184 points <br />Three honorable mentions went to Essay #s 61, 214 and 222. <br />
