City of <br />lei <br />Minnesota, USA <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 8, 2008 <br />Present: Chair Janet Delmore; Commissioners Marie Oftelie; Thelma McKenzie; <br />Bob Venters; Tam McGehee; <br />Absent: Commissioner(s) Pam Bosch and Philip Crump. <br />Others Present: City Manager Bill Malinen; and Recording Secretary Sheila Stowell. <br />Chair Delmore welcomed several students in attendance from the <br />University of St. Thomas, working on their Masters Degree in Social <br />Work. <br />Call to Order: Chair Delmore called the Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting to <br />order at approximately 7:00 p.m. <br />City Manager Malinen advised Chair Delmore and Commissioners that he needed to leave the <br />meeting at approximately 7:30 p.m., due to a scheduling conflict. <br />Approve Minutes of January 8, 2008 <br />Discussion of the draft minutes, page 3, lines 92 94 was held. Commissioners concurred with <br />City Manager Malinen's suggestion to revise the paragraph read as follows: <br />"City Manager Malinen cautioned the HRC to eliminate any connotations that they had concerns <br />[solely] with the Police Department, instead focus on creating a positive and cooperative <br />relationship as a result of the training." <br />Commissioner Venters moved and Commissioner Delmore seconded approval of the January 8, <br />2008 meeting minutes as amended. Motion carried 5/0. <br />Approve Minutes of March 11, 2008 <br />Commissioner Venters moved and Commissioner Delmore seconded approval of the March 11, <br />2008 meeting minutes as presented. Motion carried 4/0/1 (Commissioner McGehee abstained). <br />Agenda Revisions <br />Chair Delmore amended the agenda, as requested by several commissioners prior to the meeting, <br />to concentrate on the HRC's presentation at the annual joint meeting with the City Council on <br />Monday, April 14, 2008. <br />Chair Delmore asked that City Manager Malinen request City staff to send e -mail reminders to <br />all HRC Commissioners of the upcoming meeting. <br />City Manager Malinen advised that the City Council agenda allotted approximately 40 minutes <br />for discussion between the City Council and HRC. <br />
