City of <br />lei <br />Minnesota, USA <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />August 12, 2008 <br />Present: Chair Janet Delmore, Commissioners Philip Crump Thelma McKenzie, Tam <br />McGehee, Marie Oftelie and David Singleton. <br />Chair Delmore noted that Commissioner Bob Venters would be late. <br />Newly- appointed Commissioner David Singleton was sworn into office by City <br />Manager Bill Malinen and welcomed by Commissioners. <br />Others Present: City Manager Bill Malinen and Recording Secretary Sheila Stowell. <br />Call to Order: Chair Delmore called the Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting to <br />order at approximately 7:00 p.m. <br />Approve Minutes of July 8, 2008 <br />Commissioner McGehee moved and Commissioner Oftelie seconded approval of the July 8, <br />2008 meeting minutes as presented. Motion carried 4/0/2 (Crump and Singleton). <br />Forum on Race/Diversity Training Planning <br />Commissioner McKenzie reported on planning for the community forum and the meeting held <br />earlier with community representatives and subcommittee members of the HRC. <br />Commissioner McKenzie highlighted planning, including four signed sponsorships (Rotary, <br />I.S.D. No. 623, Roseville Visitor's Association and J.C. Penney) and tentative sponsorships or <br />pending commitments. <br />Commissioner Venters arrived at this time <br />Discussion included other contacts and individual contacts by Commissioners; involvement of <br />smaller businesses whose owners or managers have a presence in the community through their <br />residency and /or business establishment; interest in obtaining as many contacts and involving as <br />many as possible; development or enhancement of the business mailing database to be retained <br />by the City and to facilitate future community programming; and the desire of the Commission <br />to remain in the background to facilitate a listening forum for the community. <br />Commissioner McKenzie discussed logistics of the planning process, including catering ethnic <br />foods, and ensuring that Department of Health requirements for public food service were met. <br />Chair Delmore noted the next subcommittee meeting was scheduled for August 26, at 4:00 p.m. <br />City Manager Malinen was requested to have staff post the meeting in case a quorum of <br />Commissioners was in attendance. <br />
