City of <br />lei <br />Minnesota, USA <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />September 9, 2008 <br />Present: Chair Janet Delmore; Commissioners Thelma McKenzie; Tam McGehee; <br />Marie Oftelie; Philip Crump; and David Singleton. <br />Others Present: City Manager Bill Malinen and Recording Secretary Sheila Stowell. <br />Call to Order: Chair Delmore called the Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting to <br />order at approximately 8:00 p.m. <br />Approve Minutes of August 12, 2008 <br />Corrections <br />Public Department Policies, Page 3, Lines 22 -23 (Delmore) <br />Correct to read: Chair Delmore [and others, agreed] there was a need for a Citizen's <br />Review Board and suggested a discussion for such a Board be included at a future meeting." <br />Page 3, Lines 25 -28, (Singleton) <br />"Commissioner Singleton volunteered to provide information from the City of St. Paul and <br />their procedure for citizen review. He noted that [some] officer misjudgments were not <br />intentional and were often created by the nature of their jobs and complaints were often <br />generated by citizens upset with government in general." <br />Commissioner McGehee moved and Commissioner Singleton seconded approval of the August <br />12, 2008 meeting minutes as amended. Motion carried 7/0. <br />Forum on Race/Diversity Training Planning <br />Chair Delmore and Commissioners Oftelie and McKenzie reported on planning for the Training <br />scheduled at the Roseville Skating Center on October 14. <br />Chair Delmore reported that the caterer, Molly of Creative Catering, was proposing to provide <br />soup, salad and a variety of desserts for fifty attendees at a cost of $515. Chair Delmore noted <br />there was money available in the City's HRC Budget for this expenditure, and that some <br />sponsorships had also been received, with more anticipated; and there would be other items to be <br />purchased for the event. <br />Commissioner Oftelie said she anticipated more than fifty people would attend and asked if <br />Molly would be responsible to transport unused food to homeless shelters. Commissioner <br />McKenzie volunteered to follow up on any unused food. <br />Discussion ensued on remaining budget dollars for 2008; anticipated expenses before year -end; <br />availability and /or commitment of sponsors for this event, with commitments from the Roseville <br />Visitors Association; Roseville Area School District No. 623; J. C. Penney's; Rotary; and <br />Northwestern College; with commissioners expressing caution until actual monetary <br />sponsorships had been received. <br />
