City of lei Minnesota, USA Human Rights Commission Meeting Minutes November 13, 2008 Present: Commissioners Thelma McKenzie; Tam McGehee; Marie Oftelie; David Singleton Others: City Manager Bill Malinen; Barb Ball Absent: Janet Delmore; Bob Venters; Phil Crump Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at approximately 5:46 p.m. This meeting was rescheduled from the November 4, 2008 meeting due to the General Election. McGehee moved, seconded by Oftelie, to approve the Minutes of September 9, 2008. All Ayes; motion carried. Community Dialogue Review The Commission conducted a debriefing of the Community Dialogue held on October 14, 2008. Members had received a summary report prepared by the United Way. 1. What worked well? Four Sign -in sheets 80+ in attendance A diverse group in attendance community members, ethnicity, gender, abilities, age, nationality and country of origin Speakers were well received Food was a big hit! Commitment to Action envelopes received? (1) how many envelopes did we receive? (2) how many days from date of actual dialogue will we mail these envelopes? (3) do we have any knowledge of commitments what did they indicate they wanted to accomplish to do? United Way Checklist kept us on track 2. What did not work well? Sign in table next time use a round table for sign in Also, use round tables for villages. Let's have name tags and assigned seats at a table all completed and given to participants at registration thoughts are this helps with mixing the groups; is a good connector etc. Get speakers to focus their talk on only one thing [be specific] i.e. speak of Personal Experience; Professional Experience; Their Move to this community 3. How would you improve planning and implementation process? Publish a 12 month Planning Calendar Devote more time to Planning
