Planning Commission Board Meeting City Council Chambers, 2660 Civic Center Drive Minutes - Wednesday, January 6, 2010 1. Call to Order 1 Chair Doherty called to order the Planning Commission meeting at approximately 6:30 2 p.m. and reviewed the role and purpose of the Planning Commission. 3 2. Roll Call & Introductions 4 City Planner Thomas Paschke called the Roll. 5 Members Present: Chair Jim Doherty; and Commissioners Glenn Cook; Joe 6 Wozniak; John Gisselquist; and Andre Best 7 Members Absent: Thomas Gottfried 8 Members Excused: Commissioner Daniel Boerigter 9 Staff present: Community Development Director Patrick Trudgeon; City Planner 10 Thomas Paschke; and Associate Planner Bryan Lloyd 11 3. Review of Minutes 12 Review of the October 7, 2009 meeting minutes was deferred to a future meeting. 13 MOTION 14 Member Cook moved, seconded by Member Doherty to approve meeting minutes of 15 December 16, 2009 as presented. 16 Ayes: 4 17 Nays: 0 18 Abstentions: 1 (Wozniak) 19 Motion carried. 20 Chair Doherty advised, for the benefit of audience members in attendance specific to this 21 case, that the applicant for Planning File 10-002 (Request by Riaz Hussain for approval of 22 an amendment to an existing CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT to allow the parking areas 23 adjacent to Autumn Street to remain at 1901 Lexington Avenue), had requested an 24 extension and, while the Public Hearing would be opened tonight, it would subsequently 25 be closed and continued to a future meeting. 26 4. Communications and Recognitions 27 a. From the Public (Public Comment on items not on the agenda) 28 No one from the public appeared to speak at this time. 29 b. From the Commission or Staff 30 None. 31 c. From the Parks and Recreation Department 32 Update on the Park Master Planning effort by Lonnie Brokke, Department Director 33 Parks and Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke 34 Mr. Brokke provided an update on the status of the Parks and Recreation Master 35 Plan planning process to-date, including a history of the original Master Plan 36 dated in 1960, in addition to several updates since then specific to particular 37 facilities. Mr. Brokke reviewed the purpose of the Master Plan process in ensuring 38 the future investment by the community in its parks and facilities, as well as 39 meeting current and future community needs and priorities. 40 Mr. Brokke reviewed goals of the Master Plan process to engage the community 41 to frame the plan and establish standards or reinforce existing standards to 42 perpetuate a high-quality system, which took in to account societal and 43 community changes, allowing the City to be responsive, and to provide an 44 intergenerational park system. 45
