REQUEST FOR HRA ACTION
Date: 10-19-10
Item No: 9 a.
Staff Approval: Agenda Section

Action Items
Item Description: Green Remodeling Hand Book (HF_0100)
Background
One of the 2010 RHRA work plan goals was to create partnership with other communities to
create “Green Remodeling Plan Book” for residents to use when making home improvements.
In order to accomplish this goal the HRA has budgeted $5,000.
Staff mentioned this goal to the Family Housing Fund (FHF) which then offered to financially
support the RHRA in the creation of this resource. Since it is the mission of the FHF to provide
safe, affordable, sustainable homes to families and children in the Twin Cities metropolitan area,
the Green Remodeling Plan Book is a perfect opportunity to partner with the public sector to
further their mission.
The attached Memorandum of Understanding provides the framework of the collaboration with
FHF, Flisrand Consulting and the RHRA. The FHF has dedicated $10,000 that will go towards
paying for the expertise of Flisrand Consulting, which works with the FHF and other non-profit
organizations in green sustainable affordable housing programs. The RHRA would contract with
a student intern who is working or studying in the area of green remodeling to create the content
of the book. The budgeted amount of $5,000 would go to the payment of the intern. In addition
the RHRA would utilize its current marketing agreement and budget with George Hornik to
make sure that the product meets the RHRA Living Smarter marketing program and verify that
the content and illustrations meet all copyright restrictions.
Staff Recommendation
Staff is recommending that the RHRA authorize staff to enter into the MOU between FHF, and
contract with an intern for the creation of the material for the Green Remodeling Plan Book.
HRA Action
Motion to enter into MOU and hire an intern for the creation of the Green Remodeling Plan
Book.
Attachment: A: Memorandum of Understanding
Prepared by: Jeanne Kelsey (651-792-7086)
Green Remodeling Plan Book (10-19-10) -Page 1 of 1
