I just finished browsing the Commission minutes and I found them very insightful
and well detailed. I'm writing because there was mention in the December minutes about the Minnesota
Department of Human Rights and lack of knowledge of any complaints regarding the city of Roseville.
Earlier this summer I filed a complaint with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights against the City of
Roseville and the Roseville School District. I allowed that complaint to expire pending the completion of a US
Department of Education Office of Civil Rights Investigation of the Roseville School District over
discrimination based on sex regarding the access to fields/facilities and equipment/supplies for girls in
Roseville.
I've seen positive measures taken by the school district recently in response to the Title IX complaints including
the construction of a new softball field and the purchase of new uniforms for the girls softball and basketball
teams. My outstanding areas of concern are the safety of high school girls playing softball at Victoria Park
while adult males are consuming alcohol outside of the park pavilion and the lack of enforcement of the park's
alcohol consumption rules while both high school and community youth activities take place. I'm also very
concerned with the glut of baseball fields in Roseville while not a single girl's fastpitch softball field is present.
These issues are both being addressed with the School District in the OCR investigation. I'm optomistic that
1
