• f. The City encourages the use of native plant materials <br /> that provide interest and color in the winter. <br /> 4. Plant Material Standards: <br /> a. The complement of trees required shall be at least <br /> 25%deciduous and at least 25%coniferous.Not <br /> more than 30%of the required number of trees shall <br /> be composed of a single species. <br /> b. Minimum Size of Plantings:Caliper inches to be <br /> measured 6 inches off the ground. <br /> i. Canopy tree:3-inch caliper <br /> ii. Ornamental tree: 1.5-inch caliper <br /> iii. Evergreen tree:6-foot height <br /> iv. Deciduous or evergreen shrub:5-gallon pot <br /> 5. Method of Installation: <br /> a. The spacing of trees shall be appropriate to the type <br /> of plant species provided.Evergreen shrubs shall be <br /> planted in clusters in order to maximize survival. <br /> b. Visibility triangles shall be maintained as required <br /> in Section 1011.06 by selecting and locating <br /> landscaping and design features that do not exceed <br /> the height limitation in visibility triangles. <br /> III c. All deciduous shrubs and spreading or globe <br /> evergreen shrubs shall be moved onto the site in <br /> pots.All other plant materials shall be balled and <br /> burlapped(B&B)or moved onto the site with a tree <br /> spade. <br /> d. In calculating the required plant material under the <br /> provisions of this section,all areas and distances <br /> on which required calculations are based shall be <br /> rounded up to the nearest whole number. <br /> 6. Alternative Landscape Options:The City encourages <br /> the use of special design features such as xeriscaping, <br /> raingardens/bioswales,rooftop gardens,native <br /> landscapes,integrated pedestrian facilities,and public art. <br /> To encourage the use of these special design features the <br /> city acknowledges a degree of flexibility may be necessary <br /> to adjust to unique situations.This subsection provides <br /> such flexibility and presents alternative ways to meet the <br /> standards set for in this section.The alternatives provided <br /> below are discretionary and are subject to approval of <br /> the Community Development Department,unless the <br /> development application requires approval by the City <br /> Council,in which case the City Council shall approve <br /> the alternative landscape plan.Landscape requirements <br /> may be modified if the proposal meets any of the <br /> IIIfollowing: <br />
