Attachment #2 <br /> - ,-,,- -it.,,,. ..„. <br /> ea,e, , ,.. ,,,,, ,Vs, <br /> /kir <br /> City of Roseville• 2660 Civic Center Drive •Roseville,MN 55113 • FAX: 651-792-7030 <br /> Date: March 30,2011 Pages:4 <br /> Contact: Carolyn Curti,651-792-7026 <br /> Roseville Seeks Volunteers for Civic Engagement Task Force <br /> Roseville Mayor Dan Roe and Human Rights Commission Chair David Singleton are <br /> asking Roseville residents to volunteer for a task force to review the City's civic <br /> engagement policies and practices, and make recommendations on increasing citizens' <br /> opportunities to become effectively involved in city government and decision-making. <br /> Council member Tammy Pust, a proponent of the Imagine Roseville 2025 visioning <br /> process, stated that one of the major recommendations of this city initiative was for the <br /> city to foster community through encouraging neighborhood forums and organizations to <br /> become more involved in city government. <br /> Pust noted that to help achieve this Imagine Roseville goal the City Council charged the <br /> Human Rights Commission to "increase the sense of community by reaching out to all <br /> members of the community and ensuring that our city government and its activities, <br /> programs, and services are accessible, understandable, and responsive to all." <br /> In his State of the City address in February, newly elected Mayor Dan Roe also pledged <br /> that"we will see efforts to promote grass-roots development of neighborhood <br /> associations or other means to more effectively connect residents with their City <br /> government." <br /> The Human Rights Commission received a grant from the Minnesota Department of <br /> Human Rights and the Bremer Foundation to develop an assessment and framework for <br /> civic engagement in Roseville. Singleton said he welcomed the City Council's charge to <br /> the Commission to come up with a plan to increase the level of community participation <br /> and neighborhood involvement in Roseville. <br /> Roseville residents interested in serving on this task force are encouraged to contact <br /> Carolyn Curti at Carolyn.curti@ci.roseville.mn.us or 651-792-7026 by April 22. The task <br /> force will meet monthly for approximately five months beginning in late April. <br /> Further task force information is also available by contacting Human Rights <br /> Commissioner Gary Grefenberg at 651-645-6161 or e-mail at ggrefenberg@comcast.net. <br />
