However, due to the prohibitive costs for substantial
repairs, there is no action planned by Ramsey County at this time.
Discussion included the extent of necessary repairs /reconstruction of the weir; expectations of
Lake Owasso overflowing into Lake Wabasso if rains occur in the near future; observations by
residents of water circulating around and under the weir due to erosion; previous
communications between the City of Shoreview and Ramsey County Commissioners related to
the problem over the last five (5) years, and inability for the matter to reach a higher funding
level priority by Ramsey County at this time.
Chair Ferrington advised that residents seemed content that the GLWMO was aware of the
situation and would communicate their concerns to Ramsey County and suggested that the
GLWMO revisit the issue in the very near future when it seemed appropriate, and ask board
members consider if a letter from the GLWMO to Ramsey County was appropriate
Lake Owasso Lake Owner's Association (LOA)
Chair Ferrington advised Board members that residents had advised that the lake level was
responding quickly with the last few significant rain storms, but that water levels on nearby Lake
Wabasso were appreciably lower.
Information and Updates about Snail Lake
Mr. Maloney reviewed the target elevation for the lake. Water is secured from the Saint Paul
Regional Water Utility, which allows the City of Shoreview to supplement water levels in Snail
Lake. This year the Regional Water Authority has allowed the city to operate outside the usual
parameters specified in the operation plan because of higher precipitation and to continue
pumping into summer.
Old Business:
Discussion/Approval of Request for Proposal (RFP) to develop Third Generation Ten -Year
Watershed Management Plan
2
