8

me north more than it is now.

MR. ULSETH: And it's already north.

REPRESENTATIVE OF SHORT OFFICE: The south side of the
existing bituminous at that location is fairly close to where
t.~e gutter would be on the new proposed section. I think that
it's about two or three feet that would be going north of the
existing (inaudible).

~m. ULSETH: Looking at your strip map, it looked like about
four feet north. Well, another thing, of course, it's a nice
straight street and there's a couple of people who put their
feet on the accelerater and they go like crazy and there are some
snaIl children on that road, and if they can do that with the lousy
condition Minnesota is in now, I wonder what they will do when we
qet a freeway standard there. I would like to eliminate that.

FROM THE AUDIENCE: Put a stop on Western and slow them down a
little. Those kids are taking ~~eir lives in their hands when
t.~ey cross the street. I think something should be done with
breaking up the speed. It seems when they get off the highway
they just continue their 55 miles an hour on Minnesota. It's
eangerous for little kids to (inaudible) That's a suggestion.

MR. EUGENE NOVAK, 204 Minnesota: I also have one of those
steep driveways. I have trees in front of my house that were planted
by the original owner to kind of separate it from Minnesota. These
trees are going to be taken down. They have been there - they're
evergreens that have been there 20 or 25 years. Can't they be
relocated?

HR. HONCHELL: How large are they?

l~. NOVAK: About six, eight inch base, I imagine.

~m. HONCHELL: Probably not, but I guess we would certainly
tave a gentleman from our Parks and Recreation Department look
at them. We have a tree location spade that does have the
ca?ability of digging up trees. The limit of the size they can
york with is just about the size you said - 6 to 8 inches - and
.hen you're in that range they have to look at them.

!1R. NOVAK: It's an evergreen which makes it a smaller tree
as far as height and breadth.

1.m. HONCHELL: We don't like cutting down trees any more than
~'ou do.

Z'1P... NOVAK: Are there going to be lights - traffic lights -
:it Rice Street?

:1R. HONCHELL: That's not part of the proposal. It's also
:~he sort of thing we don't have control over. The state would have
~c agree with that.
