IProgram Planning Committee Report for May 10, 2011 Attachment # 2
MEMBERS OF THE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT TASK FORCE EXCLUDING COMMISSIONERS
1 ) SHANNON CUNNINGHAM
2920 Fairview Avenue N E-Mail: shannonmariecunningham®gmail.com
Cover Letter: Thanks for considering my application. Attached is the
document you requested. Let me know if you need anything else from me.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Why are you interested in serving on a city Task Force exploring civic
engagement in Roseville?
My husband and I purchased our first home in Roseville 2 years ago but have felt
somewhat isolated and unconnected to the community. Through social media
and the city publications we have learned about some of the services and
programs offered by the city, but have not made the step to utilize many of
them. We know that there are so many great programs and services offered by
the community but there seems to be a disconnect between the great job the
city does in getting the information out to residents and actually getting
residents to utilize them. I feel that after living here and navigating the system I
have identified what many of those disconnects are and will be able to help the
Task Force to identify and change them.
Additionally, I feel that each person living in Roseville is not only a resident, but
an ambassador to the city and all that it has to offer. The more we are able to
engage citizens in the events and activities of Roseville, the better and more
likely they will be to share their positive experiences with other residents and
those outside the community. In turn, this will help to set and solidify Roseville's
reputation as a thriving community.
Describe your current and past experience in civic engagement issues and
efforts, including but not limited to your community involvement in Roseville.
It seems as if every phase of my adult life has been filled with questions about
civic engagement.
• During my college days as student body President of my University, I
continually worked to find more ways to engage students in decisions
affecting their education.
Program Planning Committee Report to the May 10. 2011, Roseville Human Rights Commission_ 5 _
Meeting
