4) THERESA GUARDELLA
2809 Marion Street E-mail: tgardella@earthlink.net
Cover Letter: No worries on the delay getting back to me. I'm just glad
you're willing to review my application. I did what you said and kept it brief,
but please let me know if you'd like more information on my background and/or
interest in the Task Force. I'm excited by this opportunity and really look
forward to contributing whatever skills and experience I can to such a worthy
endeavor. It's a wonderful way for me to be more engaged in my new
community.
Why are you interested in serving on a city Task Force exploring civic
engagement in Roseville?
My family moved to Roseville one year ago from Minneapolis and from the first
day we moved in we have felt welcomed by our neighbors and our new
community. From both my personal and professional experiences, I know that
strong and vibrant communities are active in the planning and implementation of
initiatives and strategies that impact their lives. Strong and vibrant communities
are welcoming to newcomers and inclusive of all people. Strong and vibrant
communities welcome new ideas while respecting experience and wisdom.
The Civic Engagement Task Force gives me a perfect opportunity to bring my
personal and professional interest to an endeavor that is searching for ways to
make Roseville an even stronger and more vibrant community.
Describe your current and past experience in civic engagement issues and
efforts, including but not limited to your community involvement in Roseville.
As a new resident to Roseville, I have limited community involvement in Roseville
(we're first time homeowners so our learning curve has been steep and kept us
pretty busy!). However, much of my professional life has involved building
stronger civic engagement efforts. In my former communities, I've participated
in neighborhood meetings, attended City Council meetings, and been involved in
community programs, such as Clean Up days, and Urban Gardening. I currently
serve on several Advisory Committees (see below).
Summarize special skills and qualifications you have acquired from
employment or previous community work which may be useful in the Task
Force's work.
Currently I am a Program Officer with Nexus Community Partners, a community
building intermediary working on the Eastside of St. Paul and in North and South
Minneapolis. Community engagement is a key strategy in our work of community
building. Community engagement includes multiple techniques used to promote
the participation of residents in community life, and to strengthen neighborhood
Program Planning Committee Report to the May 10. 2011, Roseville Human Rights Commission 11 -
Meeting
