revitalization efforts. Community members are engaged in efforts to connect
with others to create a stronger civic engagement infrastructure within and
across neighborhoods.
Prior to joining Nexus Community Partners, I was a Program Director for the
Advocacy Institute, a national organization in Washington, DC working with
community-based groups and coalitions to build and strengthen civic engagement
and advocacy efforts.
In addition, I serve on various Advisory Committees, including the St. Paul Public
Library Perrie Jones Advisory Committee, the Home Ownership Center's Emerging
Markets Homeownership Initiative Advisory Committee and recently the East Side
Neighborhood Development Company's Community Engagement Advisory
Committee.
My work is deeply satisfying to me and I see no greater reward than when
individuals find their voice and their place in their own community. I look
forward to sharing my experiences and learning from others on the Task Force.
5) DIANE HILDEN
466 Bayview Drive E-mail: dianemhilden @gmail.com
Cover Letter: I am sending you this with some reluctance having served on lots
of Roseville task force efforts never having seen the fruition but I can be a
"scrappy"broad and you seem like a trully engaged and thoughtful person.
Why are you interested in serving on a city Task Force exploring civic
engagement in Roseville?
Because the Lake McCarrons Neighborhood Association which I founded almost 20
yrs ago has never received the recognition and involvement from a variety of
Roseville City Councils that it has deserved. LMNA has also never been able to
share its challenges and successes either due to the lack of City Council support.
Describe your current and past experience in civic engagement issues and
efforts, including but not limited to your community involvement in Roseville.
In addition to having initiated the Lake McCarrons Neighborhood Association
almost 20 yrs ago I have served as its Board Chair and or board member for most
of those years. While I resigned last year as Chair I remain on the Board. I am a
community organizer in St Paul for the Summit Hill Association/St Paul District
Council # 16 and their Crime Prevention Coordinator.
I believe in volunteerism, have been a lifelong volunteer in a myriad of capacities
within Roseville and other locations and states and have been frustrated by
Roseville's political praise of its governance and functions and lack of
critical/analytical inclusive point of view.
Program Planning Committee Report to the May 10. 2011, Roseville Human Rights Commission 12 -
Meeting
