Roseville Human Rights Commission <br /> DRAFT Minutes—April 12, 2011 <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br /> 48 <br /> 49 Commissioners expressed appreciation for Commissioners McKenzie and Singleton, former <br /> 50 Commissioner Liz Jaeger, Department of Human Rights Staff Mario Hernandez and city staff for <br /> 51 their efforts to coordinate the regional forum. <br /> 52 <br /> 53 4b. Program Planners Subcommittee <br /> 54 <br /> 55 Commissioner Grefenberg reviewed the report that was in the packet. Anne Carroll has been hired <br /> 56 to help with the civic engagement task force. <br /> 57 <br /> 58 Commissioner Grefenberg distributed the press release and asked others to invite their neighbors or <br /> 59 friends to serve on the task force. He noted the deadline to apply was April 22. He's had eight <br /> 60 responses so far. Commissioner Grefenberg has talked with chairs of some of the other <br /> 61 commissions, and he intends to get them involved in the task force. Commissioner Grefenberg <br /> 62 expects the task force to meet monthly for about five months beginning in May. <br /> 63 <br /> 64 The goal of the task force is to develop methods of civic engagement that are more effective and <br /> 65 meaningful. Commissioner Grefenberg asked for feedback on the "Core Values for the Practice of <br /> 66 Public Participation." <br /> 67 <br /> 68 Commissioner Grefenberg said Commissioner Brisbois agreed to join the task force, and Youth <br /> 69 Commissioner Seth Josephson had previously agreed to serve on the task force. <br /> 70 <br /> 71 Commissioner Thao also asked to serve on the task force. <br /> 72 <br /> 73 Commissioner Grefenberg encouraged others to get involved. He anticipated five-month process <br /> 74 with the first meeting in early May. <br /> 75 <br /> 76 4c. Data Geeks Subcommittee <br /> 77 <br /> 78 No report. <br /> 79 <br /> 80 4d. Youth Commissioner Report <br /> 81 <br /> 82 Youth Commissioner Anthony Barrett distributed an email in which he had identified several <br /> 83 RAHS groups interested in human rights issues. He would like to invite groups to come to the <br /> 84 commission and tell about their work. The Darfur Awareness Now Group (DANG) expressed <br /> 85 interest in attending this year. The Karen Club is interested,but not this year. Commissioner Barrett <br /> 86 had not heard from the other groups yet. <br /> 87 <br /> 88 Commissioner Barrett suggested setting a schedule to have the groups come in and talk about what <br /> 89 they do. <br /> 90 <br /> 91 Commissioners discussed ways to involve students.
