Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />April 12, 2011 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />Commissioners expressed appreciation for Commissioners McKenzie and Singleton, former <br />Commissioner Liz Jaeger, Department of Human Rights Staff Mario Hernandez and city staff for <br />their efforts to coordinate the regional forum. <br />4b. Program Planners Subcommittee <br />Commissioner Grefenberg reviewed the report that was in the packet. Anne Carroll has been hired <br />to help with the civic engagement task force. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg distributed the press release and asked others to invite their neighbors or <br />friends to serve on the task force. He noted the deadline to apply was April 22. He's had eight <br />responses so far. Commissioner Grefenberg has talked with chairs of some of the other <br />commissions, and he intends to get them involved in the task force. Commissioner Grefenberg <br />expects the task force to meet monthly for about five months beginning in May. <br />The goal of the task force is to develop methods of civic engagement that are more effective and <br />meaningful. Commissioner Grefenberg asked for feedback on the "Core Values for the Practice of <br />Public Participation." <br />Commissioner Grefenberg said Commissioner Brisbois agreed to join the task force, and Youth <br />Commissioner Seth Josephson had previously agreed to serve on the task force. <br />Commissioner Thao also asked to serve on the task force. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg encouraged others to get involved. He anticipated five -month process <br />with the first meeting in early May. <br />4c. Data Geeks Subcommittee <br />No report. <br />4d. Youth Commissioner Report <br />Youth Commissioner Anthony Barrett distributed an email in which he had identified several <br />RAHS groups interested in human rights issues. He would like to invite groups to come to the <br />commission and tell about their work. The Darfur Awareness Now Group (DANG) expressed <br />interest in attending this year. The Karen Club is interested, but not this year. Commissioner Barrett <br />had not heard from the other groups yet. <br />Commissioner Barrett suggested setting a schedule to have the groups come in and talk about what <br />they do. <br />Commissioners discussed ways to involve students. They asked for more details about what some of <br />the groups worked on, and they expressed interest in hearing from the youth groups. Commissioners <br />
