12/20/99 Interoffice Memo
high school and a DARE Officer for the elementary grades.
They deal extensively in substance abuse reduction on their
own and in cooperation with the school district.
Just May 4th Roseville Police and Fire and the High School
presented a dramatized drunk driving crash and arrest for
ALL the juniors and seniors at the RAHS parking lot. It was
an event just prior to Prom and included classroom
discussion about underage drinking and alcohol abuse.
SAFE AND SOBER
Roseville Police was one of the first departments in the state
to participate in Safe and Sober grants which paid for
overtime for officers to focus on arresting drunk drivers. We
did not break down the ages, but common knowledge
indicates a number of our arrests were underage drinkers.
We are starting to participate in the Safe and Sober
Challenge. A national program focusing on reduction of
drinking and driving.
In conclusion, I would like to mention selling or giving alcoholic
beverages to underage persons has always been against the law.
What we have tried to do is give a break to establishments who
are honestly trying to comply with state law. The license holders
are responsible for their employees and the operation of their
businesses.
3
