December 17, 2000
Rice Creek Watershed District
Attn: Tony Brough
3585 Lexington Avenue N. (Ste 330)
Arden Hills, Mn. 55126-8056
RE: Wetland fill at 2220 Acorn Road, Roseville, Mn.
Dear Mr. Brough,
As you have kept me advised on the wetland filling at 2220 Acorn
Road, I am still puzzled by the conditions at the site.
Silt fencing was installed at the are. , however it was installed
above the polluted fill, not below it. Why ? This method, I believe,
will not control the erosion in the wetland basin. The erosion will
continue to pollute the area after spring snow and rains. The water
will then go into the fill and directly into the pond, which was
filled with water in November and then froze.
/
t j
I understand the owner is applying for a permit to leave the fill
in place . I am concerned that the unclean fill if left in place,
and no silt fence in place, will permanently damage the pristine
pond area . What plan is in place to restore what has been damaged ?
This small area is a wildlife habitate to hawks, mallards, wood ducks,
2 red fox, 1 grey fox, racoons, a young deer and an osprey pair.
I believe the wetlands are public waters and we should all protect
them. In this current situation, I sadly feel this is being sacrifi-
ced for a very foolish reason.
I would like a reply to my letter.
Sincerely, ozi
Eliza eth Boryczka
2250 Acorn Road, Roseville
