Changes to the brochure were made: adding advocacy to
the list of Task Force goals, changing language in the 'why are neighborhoods
important. The possibility of printing a bulletin board instead of brochures was
discussed. Haden agreed to post the brochure, survey, map and all other
workgroup materials on the Google Docs page and link from Google Groups.
Assessment of Civic Engagement Practices: Greg Simbeck and Haden Bowie
will talk with Shannon Cunningham on neighborhood and community
representation models (and assess current city practices/neighborhood
frameworks/models).
Shannon Cunningham, Peter Strohmeier, James DeBenedet, and Gary Grefenberg
will work on notification best practices in regards to city practices. Greg will report
back on how the Parks and Rec Commission engages residents). The group's
name was changed to the Public Notification Assessment Group.
Greg Simbeck will send the new Task Force name, community engagement
definition, Task Force mission, and Task Force purpose to Haden Bowie to add to
Google Groups/Docs. An addition about our purpose being, "To encourage
democracy and confidence in decision-making." was added to the purpose
statement. Greg Simbeck and Jim DeBenedet will continue to work on these
guiding documents during the next month.
Other Work Groups: The Citizens' Survival Guide to Civic Engagement is still in
the planning phase. The group will be merging with the Neighborhood Identification
Group during the next month.
Judy Berglund and Gary Grefenberg will work on press and public relations items
for the Task Force.
Upcoming Events/Additional Announcements
The Human Rights Commission has a joint meeting with the City Council on July
18. Since the Task Force is one of the most important things going on for the
Commission, Chair Grefenberg asked for volunteers who might want to attend.
4
