Human Rights Commission <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> September 13, 2011 <br /> Commissioners Present: Jill Brisbois, Kristin Doneen, Vice Chair Gary Grefenberg, Wayne <br /> Groff, Thelma McKenzie, Kaying Thao, Chair David Singleton <br /> Youth Commissioners Marie Siliciano <br /> Call to Order <br /> Chair David Singleton called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. He noted that members of the <br /> Golden Valley Human Rights Commission were in the audience. He also noted that no staff was <br /> available for the meeting because of illnesses. <br /> The Chair called the roll. <br /> Approve Minutes of August 9, 2011 <br /> Commissioner Gary Grefenberg moved to amend the minutes, adding after line 31 "Commissioner <br /> Grefenberg moved a variety of amendments to the draft minutes. He distributed the minutes to City <br /> Manager Bill Malinen." Commissioner Jill Brisbois seconded motion to approve minutes as <br /> amended. Motion prevailed with Commissioner Thelma McKenzie abstaining. <br /> Committee Reports <br /> Program Planning Committee <br /> Commissioner Grefenberg reviewed the Program Planning report in the packet. He noted that the <br /> Neighborhood and Community Engagement Task Force was holding their neighbor to neighbor <br /> meeting on Wednesday, looking for ways to improve how citizens can involve themselves in city <br /> governance. He encouraged everyone to attend. <br /> Commissioner Grefenberg said the City had included an article in the recent City Newsletter, which <br /> goes to every resident's home, informing them of the meeting, and he noted that the City has <br /> provided a webpage with information about the task force. <br /> Commissioner Kristin Doneen asked how she could be notified of the Program Planning meetings. <br /> Commissioner Grefenberg said he would send his committee's meeting notices to commissioners <br /> and to city staff to publish and post. He said all meetings are open to the public and encouraged all <br /> commissioners to attend. <br /> Commissioner Grefenberg said the goal of the meeting is to get more people involved and to <br /> develop recommendations to give to the city. The topics they would cover at the meeting included <br /> transparency and clarity; communications, neighborhood involvement; and government <br /> responsiveness. <br />
