Roseville, MN - Official Website Page 1 of 5 <br />You are here:Home > Archive Center <br />View Other Items in this Archive I View All Archives I Printable Version <br />Human Rights Commission <br />Human Rights Commission Meeting Minutes <br />June 19, 2013 <br />Commissioners: Scot Becker, Vice Chair Jill Brisbois, Chair Gary Grefenberg, Wayne <br />Groff, Kaying Thao, David Singleton <br />Youth Commissioner: Julia Laden, Marie Siliciano, Sarah Thomas <br />Commissioners Absent: Joan Dao <br />Staff: Carolyn Curti and Interim City Manager Pat Trudgeon (part of meeting) <br />Call to Order <br />The Human Rights Commission (HRC) meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Chair <br />Grefenberg requested staff call the roll. <br />Approve Agenda <br />Chair Grefenberg requested the Chair ?s Report be moved up on the agenda and discussed <br />prior to the approval of the minutes. He indicated that Interim City Manager Pat Trudgeon <br />was able to be present for only the beginning of the meeting, and he felt he should be <br />present for that agenda item. <br />Commissioner Groff moved and Commissioner Thao seconded a motion to approve the <br />agenda as amended. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Swearing in of Sarah Thomas as Youth Commissioner <br />Chair Grefenberg administered the Oath of Office to Youth Commissioner Sarah Thomas. <br />Committee & Chair Reports <br />Chair's Report <br />Reassessing & Revising Standard Operational Procedures: Chair Grefenberg <br />distributed a written Chair ?s Report to the Commission. He indicated several significant <br />issues had arisen within the last few weeks subsequent to the recent resignation of <br />Commission Doneen, and felt it was necessary that he report to the full Commission on <br />certain actions he had taken over the past few weeks. Grefenberg said that these recent <br />issues revolved around how the Commission handled its workload and how our operations <br />have evolved over the last two years. <br />Grefenberg continued that subsequent to her resignation former Commissioner Kris Doneen <br />had met with him and had also written several Council members elaborating on her <br />experience as a Human Rights Commissioner. Her main reason for resigning remained her <br />sense of burnt -out; because of this experience, however, Grefenberg added that he believed <br />certain operational changes needed to be made to better achieve the HRC's objectives <br />without the stress which often seemed to accompany its workload. <br />Grefenberg reported that he had therefore he had written City Manager Trudgeon and the <br />Council to ask for their consideration of the following four measures: 1) Commission staff <br />need to assume more of the administrative and organizing work of the Commission; 2) In <br />order to be sustainable the Commission needs to better prioritize its work; 3) The Council <br />http:// mn- roseville. civicplus .com /Archive.aspx ?ADID= 1556 &PREVIEW =YES 5/5/2014 <br />
