Human Rights Commission Meeting Minutes March 9, 2010 Commissioners Present: Chair David Singleton; Vice -Chair Marie Oftelie; Commissioners Gary Grefenberg, Liz Jaeger, Thelma McKenzie and Barb Yates. 1. Call to Order: Chair David Singleton called meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. The Clerk called the roll. 2. Approve Minutes of January 12, 2010 Commissioner Barb Yates moved and Commissioner Liz Jaeger seconded approval of the January 12, 2010 minutes. Motion passed unanimously. 3. Staff /Committee Reports 3a. Visions of Success Subcommittee Commissioner Jaeger reviewed the highlights from the subcommittee meeting. The Committee is considering several ways to divide the city into neighborhoods as a way to target outreach. They are also working with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights to have a regional conference to raise awareness about human rights. They are pursuing public relations strategies, including having a monthly human rights column in the Roseville Review. The committee asked if they need Council approval to generate revenue and to hire an intern. They will follow up with a discussion with the City Manager. The Committee will meet on March 23 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. They invited other commissioners to attend and asked that staff post the meeting in case there was a quorum of commissioners. Commissioner Gary Grefenberg asked for clarification about what constituencies they were looking for with the neighborhoods, but the committee was not able to answer that question yet. 3b. Program Planners Subcommittee Commissioner Marie Oftelie reported that the subcommittee planned to meet on March 15. They will work to identify the audience and define messages the commission wants to communicate. Commissioner Grefenberg provided information about possible intern resources. He said they would discuss getting volunteers and City staff involved in help identify neighborhoods. 3c. Data Geeks Subcommittee
