Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />January 13, 2009 <br /> <br />Commissioners Present: Vice Chair Marie Oftelie; Commissioners Janet Delmore; Tam <br />McGehee; and Philip Crump; with Chair David Singleton arriving at <br />approximately 7:55 p.m. <br /> <br />Commissioners Excused: Commissioner Thelma McKenzie <br /> <br />Note: Commissioner Venters had given hi s resignation effective January 12, 2009. <br /> <br />Others Present: City Manager Bill Malinen; Recording Secretary Sheila Stowell <br /> <br />Call to Order: Vice Chair Marie Oftelie called th e Human Rights Commission (HRC) <br />meeting to order at approximately 7:10 p.m. <br /> <br />Amend Agenda <br />Revise minutes to November and December me eting approval, not September, which were <br />approved at the November 2008 meeting. <br /> <br />Vice Chair Oftelie reviewed the staff note and distributed additional meeting handouts, which <br />included a summary of participant responses to the Roseville Human Righ ts Dialogue; brochure <br />with the Roseville Human Rights Commission Mi ssion Statement; tally ranking essay contest <br />contributions; and an update from City Ma nager Malinen entitled, “Neighborhood Enhancement <br />and Diversity Commission.” <br /> <br />Approve Minutes of Nove mber 13, 2008 and December 9, 2008 <br />Due to a lack of a quorum of specific member s, November and December 2008 meeting minutes <br />were not approved. <br /> <br />Update on Essay Contest/Meeting in February <br />Commissioners reviewed the tally and ranking for the 2008 Essay Contest with the following <br />results: <br />First Place = Meghan Brady – 8 th grade Parkview <br />Second Place = Connor Polydoroff – 8 th grade RAMS <br />Third Place (tie) = Jingyang Dong - 8 th grade RAMS <br />Sammy Shaker – 7 th grade RAMS <br />Honorable Mention = Jordan Burich - 8 th grade RAMS <br />Anne Raymond - 8 th Grade Parkview <br /> <br />Member Crump moved, seconded by Member Delmore to award all named teachers who <br />provided students with an essay contest opportun ity with $30 gift certificates to Barnes and <br />Nobel and authorizing an in creased expenditure of $60. <br />
