City of Arden Hills Chapter l3 Zoning Code <br />Subd. 6. Design Guidelines. New construction and redevelopment of properties shall <br />adhez-e to the following design requirements. <br />A. Building Exteriors, Site Features, and Site Development. <br />{i) The arrangernent, geometry, �nassing, mater�als and colors shall <br />wor�C to create a high quality cievelo�nnexat that is respon;sive to <br />existing buildings, site features, and site design on adjo�ning sites in <br />the district. <br />(ii) Exterior building materials shall b� primariiy of brick, stone, glass <br />or any combination thereaf, except tri� and other accessory or <br />deeorative features may be metal, wood, or EIFS. <br />{iii) Sheet mEta�, corrugated metal, and plain flat concrete block <br />{painted or not) shall not be permitted as exterior finishes. <br />{iv) Design ele�nents on al� sides of a building sha]l he eampatible <br />with the front elevation anc�/or adjacent bui�dings. Architectural <br />elements such as, but not iir�ited to, windows, s�utters, awnings, <br />doors, rtiasonry exterior veneers, cornice detailing, window casings, <br />and other architectural detaiIs should demonstrate consistency on alI <br />sides of the structure that are reasonably visible to the general public. <br />Plain flat walis shall not be permitted when viewable fror►� the public <br />right-of-way or public areas. <br />{v) Buildiaags containing office and retail uses shal� maintain twenty <br />percent {20°/a} minimum window coverage on each floor that faces a <br />street or public open space. Mirror glass/farade glazing/spandrel <br />glass/faux windows shall not eonstitute more thar� fifty percent (SO%) <br />of t�e required window area. <br />{vi) The City Council will rnake the final determination on tne <br />compatibility anc3 consistency with these design provisions. <br />B. Fences. <br />{i) No barbed wire, razar wire, or spikes allowec�. <br />{ii) �'ences must blend into the Iandscape and rninimize corrosion. <br />Wood, brick, stone or wrought iron is encouraged.
