Parks,Trails&Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes April 17,2012
Page 3
2. Finalize Proposed Sign Locations
Committee Member Peck suggested the members rate the sign locations according to
priority.
Ms. Olson provided a map for the members so they could specify the sign placements.
Discussion ensued and the members made suggestions for placement of the 20 signs.
Some of the suggested locations were the northeast and southwest corner of New Brighton
Road and Stowe; in the vicinity of the pavilion at Charles Perry Park; the southwest corner
of 96 and Hamline; the northeast corner of Briarknoll Circle and Snelling Avenue; and two
at Cummings Park, one by Amble Drive and one by Cummings Park Drive.
Ms. Olson indicated they could finalize their proposal at the next meeting and then bring to
Council or she could bring the suggestions made at this meeting to Council. The members
were in agreement that they would like to review at the next meeting before having Ms.
Olson bring to Council.
Council Liaison Holden also suggested they keep some of the signs in reserve in case one
gets damaged and they cannot get another one right away.
B. Park Bench Location Recommendations
Ms. Olson indicated she is bringing this to Council for approval at the next meeting. She was
able to get 11 benches for a cost of$5,000. Ms. Olson provided a map showing potential
locations for bench placement and asked the members to review and bring forward any
recommendations. She informed she cannot place the benches until she gets a
recommendation from the PTRC.
Council Liaison Holden suggested they reserve one bench for the triangle area.
Ms. Olson also suggested a bench at the southwest corner of Lexington Avenue and Hwy 96.
Committee Member Straumann informed that Ramsey County was putting in four benches
along Hwy 96.
The members reviewed and gave input on Ms. Olson's recommended bench placements.
Some of the locations that were decided on were at Arden Hills City Hall, by the play structure
at Cummings Park, on trail entrance to Cummings from Amble, Keithson south of 96, on
Briarknoll between Norma and Dawn,by the play structure at Ingerson, on the ELA Trail
between Edgewater and Jerrold, on Indian Place, on Chatham Avenue, at Freeway Park and on
Valentine.
MOTION: Committee Member Larson moved to accept the recommendations from
Ms. Olson as identified by the committee, seconded by Committee Member
Peck.
