ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—MAY 29, 2012 11
Councilmember Tamble was in favor of keeping the three parking spaces to the east of the drive-
thru.
Mayor Grant questioned how the Council would like to proceed with the signage. He was
encouraged that the word "Discount" would be removed from the liquor sign. He recommended
the sign requirements be increased in size to allow for the word "Cub" to be placed above the
pharmacy drive-thru.
Councilmember Tamble recommended the signage have continuity with other Cub Foods in the
metro area. He supported the recommendation from the Planning Commission regarding signage.
City Planner Beekman clarified that the Council can make a decision on the amount of square
footage of signage allowed, but not what the signage says. This would be determined by the
applicant.
Councilmember Holmes questioned what the sign square footage would be reduced to if the
word"Discount" were removed from Cub Discount Liquor.
City Planner Beekman estimated this would be approximately 800 square feet.
Mr. Paquay commented 800 square feet would be sufficient to meet the signage, needs for Cub
Foods with the drive-thru pharmacy.
Councilmember Tamble questioned if 778 square feet of signage was currently on this site.
City Planner Beekman stated this was the case between the fagade/wall signs and monument
sign.
Councilmember Holden asked how much_ additional signage was being requested by the
applicant.
City Planner Beekman stated an additional 163 square feet was being requested.
Mayor Grant was in favor of the applicant having the word "Cub" with the pharmacy drive-thru
sign.
Councilmember Holden was not in favor of the proposed sign on the pharmacy drive-thru.
Councilmember Holmes recommended the wall signage on the building shall not exceed 800
square feet.
AMENDMENT: Councilmember Holmes moved and Councilmember Werner seconded
a motion revise Condition #3 to read: The wall signage on the building
shall not exceed 800 square feet.
Councilmember Tamble supported the increase.
