Staff recommended the construction contract be awarded to
Magney Construction with the bid alternate and authorized staff to purchase the pump and
controls equipment from Electric Pump.
Mayor Grant asked when the work would be completed. Public Works Director Maurer stated
the work would be done in 2012 along with the rework of four other stations. This would mean
for half of the lift stations in the City to be updated to new components.
Councilmember Holmes questioned which lift stations would be updated through the Electric
Pump Company quote. Public Works Director Maurer explained that Lift Station #1 and Lift
Station#12 would be replaced with standardized equipment.
Councilmember Holmes requested further information on the replacement of the forcemain.
Public Works Director Maurer stated the forcemain on Lift Station#12 has had breakage issues
in the past and this piping would be replaced with the reconstruction of the lift station.
Councilmember Werner was in favor of proceeding with this reconstruction work.
Councilmember Tamble agreed.
Mayor Grant stated it was important for the City to continue to invest in the City's lift stations.
MOTION: Mayor Grant moved and Councilmember Holmes seconded a motion to
award the bid for the reconstruction of Lift Station #1 and #12 to Magney
Construction including Alternate 1.0 for the new forcemain at Lift Station#12
as the lowest responsible bidder in the amount of$291,620 and authorize the
purchase of pumps and equipment for Lift Station #1 and #12 from Electric
Pump Company in the amount of $100,118.46, for a total proiect cost,
including overhead, not to exceed $417,738.45. The motion carried
unanimously (4-0).
B. Old Highway 10 Water Main Replacement
Public Works Director Maurer stated the water main between Valentine Road and Lake
Valentine Road has had three water main breaks in the past ten days, There have been eleven
breaks since late 2007. Each break was happening in the same manner, creating holes in the pipe,
and required this section of Old Highway 10 to be closed for repairs.
Public Works Director Maurer explained the City requested three bids for a high density plastic
pipe, which would not be susceptible to deterioration due to the soils. Two vendors provided the
City with a quote with the low bidder being $60,408.40 from GM Contracting. This quote
covered all expenses, with the City replacing the blacktop and providing road closure signing.
GM Contracting would be able to start the work this Thursday and complete the project within
two weeks. Staff requested the Council consider replacing this pipe to eliminate future breaks.
He noted this was not a budgeted expense, but funds were available in the water fund.
