ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL—OCTOBER 8, 2012 5
10. COUNCIL COMMENTS AND STAFF UPDATES
Councilmember Holmes stated that after the last election, the Council did not receive results of
the write-in votes as they had requested. She asked staff to confirm with Ramsey County
Elections as to whether or not a list of write-ins may be obtained after this year's election.
Councilmember Holmes noted that the B2 Corridor meeting held earlier today was very
successful. She indicated that Bolton & Menk did a good job and they shared what their
recommendations are, which is something they will share with the Council at a later date.
Councilmember Holmes stated that everyone on the Council received an open house invitation
from a new business in the area called Ulteig. She is planning on attending their open house on
November 7.
Councilmember Holmes noted that there have been comments made regarding the hockey rink
needing paint or stain at the upper part of Freeway Park. She also suggested some plantings to
help make the area more attractive. She said that the Cummings Park entrance from the parking
lot area needs attention. It has chains and it is muddy when it's wet outside or sandy when it's
dry. She recommended that staff or the PTRC look into making some improvements there.
Councilmember Werner stated that he had an upset neighbor whose vote "no" yard sign was
destroyed. He noted that this might be an isolated incident, but he told his neighbor that he would
mention the incident.
Councilmember Werner noted a few upcoming meetings of the Ramsey County League of Local
Governments. There will be a meeting on October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ramsey County
Conservation District, and November 15 at 7:00 p.m., is their annual meeting. The topic of
discussion on November 15th is election recap and local impacts, and the guest speaker is Tom
Hauser. The meeting will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Shoreview.
Councilmember Holden stated that Carpet One has moved into the Arden Plaza. They were
formerly located in Roseville.
Councilmember Holden noted that County Road E and Lexington Avenue is starting to look
untidy. She said that the beautiful new black wrought iron fence outside of the new Walgreens
building has a "get your flu shot" sign flapping around in the wind, among other signs located
within the boulevard.
Councilmember Tamble stated that the Communications Committee is responsible for the City's
newsletter, and a new edition will be distributed next month. One of the articles in the upcoming
newsletter is in regard to the launch of the new website, and the article will contain information
about the site. He also noted that the Chair of the Communications Committee has announced
that she will not be seeking reappointment; therefore, there will be a vacancy on the
Communications Committee. At this time, it is uncertain if another member will step up to the
Chair position. Anyone interested in filling the vacancy effective December 31, 2012, should
contact City Hall.
