The motion carried unanimously (4-0).
6. PULLED CONSENT ITEMS
A. Mill-Patch and Trail Rehabilitation Quotes
Mayor Grant requested further information on this item.
Public Works Director Maurer stated that the 2013 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) contains
items for street maintenance and trail maintenance. Both of these items are funded from the PIR
fund. Staff requested quotes from four contractors for a combination of mill and patch street areas
that show stripping and trail removal and repaving areas that are severely distressed. Of the four
quotes requested, only one quote was received, and that quote was from North Metro Asphalt and
Contracting. The quote includes 1800 square yards of street mill and patch and 900 square yards
of trail removal and repaving for a total of$58,842.
Public Works Director Maurer reviewed the location of the proposed work in further detail.
Staff requested the flexibility to spend the remaining balance in the CIP budget given the fact the
quote came in lower than anticipated and recommended that the Council authorize staff to enter
into a contract with North Metro Asphalt and Contracting for the street and trail maintenance.
Mayor Grant commented that he pulled this item to receive further information from staff
regarding where the proposed work would be completed in the City. He is pleased that the quote
came in lower than anticipated. He questioned if the Council wanted to take advantage of the
lower bid prices and complete additional maintenance projects in 2013.
Councilmember Holden suggested that this issue could be discussed further at an upcoming
budget meeting.
Public Works Director Maurer stated that the lower bid amount would assist the City in
working ahead on the 2014 projects.
Councilmember Holden is pleased that the asphalt rates came in below the estimate as this could
be beneficial to the City in completing necessary street projects.
