CONSENT ITEM

MEMORANDUM

DATE: October 28, 2013

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers

FROM: Patrick Klaers, City Administrator

SUBJECT: Cable Services Agreement

Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source:
$2,865 $2,865 Cable TV Special Revenue
Fund

Background

The City has had an ongoing agreement with the City of New Brighton for cable services. This
agreement related mainly to the taping of Council and Planning Commission meetings for live
broadcasts and replays on our cable channel.

Due to staff turnover, New Brighton gave notice that it needed to terminate the agreement. In
order to continue receiving cable services, I contacted CTV about providing services to the City.

Discussion

CTV has indicated that they are very willing to provide the cable services to the City in a manner
that is similar to what was provided by New Brighton. They currently provide these services for
St. Anthony and are discussing an agreement with Roseville for providing cable services.

The North Suburban Access Corporation (NSAC) will be the branch of CTV that will be
providing the services to Arden Hills. A proposed Agreement is attached for your consideration.
The City Attorney has review the Agreement, and has indicated no concerns with the Agreement.
NSAC has likewise reviewed the Agreement and indicated that the Agreement is acceptable. The
cost of the services will be slightly less in this new contract with NSAC than what we were
paying New Brighton. Funding for the services will come from the Cable TV Special Revenue
Fund. The Agreement runs through December 31, 2014.

Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached Cable Services Agreement between
the City and NSAC.
